glitter and waffles

If you’ve ever even glanced at Pinterest you’ve probably seen the post that goes something like this:

“OMG, MIX GLUE AND GLITTER AND YOU CAN PAINT A GLITTER WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Oh, and the pin is of a glitter wall in a nursery.   Haven’t seen it?  Imagine a disco ball is a womb and there’s the visual.

I’ve tried the mixing glue and glitter experiment before and it sucked.   I wondered if I might have better results with glitter and modge podge:

Bingo!   My red solo cup isn’t for beer, it’s for crafting.   Working on a few things that hopefully won’t end in epic fails later this week.

Who else is excited for Thanksgiving!?   I missed out on the turkey last year when I was in the midst of my vegan experiment (which I need to jump back on soon) but this year I’m gearing up for turkey.   I have no shame, I’ll eat a drumstick.  If you’re the master chef for your Thanksgiving you’re probably not too thrilled to do tons of cooking this week.   Can I suggest easy?   Can I suggest waffles?

MMMMM, amazing belgian waffles.   I made those!  Recipe is here (egg separation is key.)  I suck at making waffles.   The secret?  A spinning waffle maker:

If you have one of those awful square waffle makers, throw it out and go get a spinning waffle maker today.   1)  You’ll be able to have BELGIAN waffles on demand.  2) You’ll stop having messes from your square waffle maker.    Don’t lie, you’ve had some hot messes from that square machine.   I would new ways to F up waffle making with mine, batter would go everywhere, or they would burn, it would take hours to scrape out.   This always happened (via runeatrepeat.com.)

Amazing waffles, easy dinner.   Go now and get it, or try to score one on sale on Black Friday.  Regardless Belgian Waffles should be in your life at some point this week.

i’m a sparkle addict

It all started innocently enough.   I decided to sparkle some headphones.   I’m a dj, I use them everyday, I like sparkle, what’s the harm right?

I took a break for awhile, but when winter rolled around I got the urge to make things sparkly again.  I reinvented a can to add a little sparkle to my makeup brushes:

Then I got into making sparkly headbands.

After that it all went downhill.  I mean, hello, I gemmed out a can to put lollipops in at my desk (although it is fitting)

I sparkled an Easter egg last weekend:

For the past few weekends I’ve been slowly working on this.  That would be a mid progress bejeweled wreath.   Yes.  wreath.   The tackiest thing ever.

IT’S OFFICIAL, I have a problem with sparkles.

I make these things, not because I’m really hoping to have the gaudiest wreath on my door (seriously, that thing will never see the light of day) but because it relaxes me.   Making things sparkly is essentially a kindergarten craft project, and sometimes after a week of crazy time at work, running around with the kid and manfriend, I like to take an hour to sit with a glass of wine and glue jewels to stuff.   Well, I suppose the glass of wine could explain the crazier creations, but still it’s like a sparkly mandala.  If I’m lucky enough to become a little old lady I won’t have a house full of cats, I’ll have a house full of sparkles.

if i had a million dollars – chocolate egg

For those who celebrate, Easter’s here this weekend.   It’s time for Cadbury eggs, jelly beans, Peeps, and chocolate rabbits.  If you’re a serious chocoholic you’ve gotta love this, the world’s most expensive chocolate egg.   The Golden Speckled Egg was purchased last week for $10,000:

Honestly, what do you do with an egg this size?  We’re talking 110 pounds of chocolate.   Eat it?   Freeze it and watch it?   I suppose if you’ve got 10k to drop on an egg you’ve got a plan in mind.

No $10,000 eggs at our house this year.   I may try out a sparkly egg, I definitely want to try to make a better batch of leopard eggs.   While a fun experiment, it looked a little ill:

pin it, do it – i’m not crafty

There’s a reason why I talk on the radio and don’t do visual demonstrations.   I would suck at it.   I can show you how not to do things quite well.   I displayed my poor craft duplication with the button tree from Pinterest.   While that was an epic fail, it was still quite relaxing.   My attempts to recreate this tie necklace from Pinterest is right up there with fail-iciousness.

My version:

Yea.   Le sigh.   I just don’t have that skill, even when I follow directions.   At least it’s good for a laugh right?

I think I’m going to start a site, hownottocraft.biz or something.

Till the next crafting disaster, be well!
