sparkling wine…bottle

Wine?  Gimme.    If you’re a wine fan like myself you end up with a bottle or 4 that just ends up going out in the trash or with the recyclables.   Why not make it shine?    Break out the glitter and the modge podge and finish up your last glass of pinot noir.  We’re gonna need that bottle.

SUPPLIES

materials

Wine bottle(s) label removed

Glitter

Modge Podge

Red Solo Cup (to keep things classy)

Paint Brush or Foam Brush

Large Cardboard Box

CREATION

Mix the glitter with the modge podge, I used about 3tbsp of glitter and about 1/4 cup of modge podge, add more glitter to make it shinier!

mix

The mixture will not look very pretty, don’t be afraid, it’s gonna dry up and shine up nice.

You’re basically painting the modge podge/glitter mix on the wine bottle.  I suggest doing all of your work inside a cardboard box to reduce messiness…unless you genuinely enjoy scraping glitter off your surfaces for weeks.

Once your workspace is set, just start painting.   Try to keep even strokes, and try to avoid dripping/clumping

start painting

Once you’ve completed your first layer of painting it should look something like this

first coatLet it dry for an hour (or until it’s no longer sticky) and paint your next layer.   I recommend 3 layers, but once a layer has dried you’ll know if you want more.

multiple coats

See my little clumps and runs?  Yea, don’t do that.  It’s a fun simple and fairly inexpensive way to add a little touch of sparkle to a little corner.   Depending on the glitter you use you can be as crazy or as subdued as you’d like.

drink up

I’m a seltzer addict.  Love it.  I buy gallons at a time.  Every holiday season Polar Seltzer rolls out their holiday offers, I’ll usually give them a try.   The eggnog was…different.  Mint chocolate wasn’t bad, but I had no idea how hard I’d fall for their Vanilla Pear:

I was buying 5 bottles a time, sadly this limited edition beverage became hard to find after January.   I found it in a few beverage stores and Ocean State Job Lot and was hoarding it like a fiend, but thankfully I can go back to being a normal consumer:

Now if I could just find Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry Vanilla, all my beverage dreams would be realized.

diet-dr-pepper-cherry-vanilLove this stuff too, but haven’t seen it in years.   Happy sipping!

hot toddy time

I feel like the only person who hasn’t jumped right into the holiday cheer thing.  It’s November 26, I’ll wait till at least December 1 if that’s ok.  I’m feeling pressured with all the lights up and all the trees up and all the purchasing, I mean  I’m still finding Halloween decorations that need to go away, unless a pumpkin in a snow globe could pass for a holiday decoration?

While I shed my Scrooge exterior let’s talk Hot Toddy’s.   There are many different versions, but I had a honey-bourbon hot toddy this weekend and it was perfect.

Ingredients

1/2 c boiling water

2tbsp honey

4tbsp bourbon

4tbsp lemon juice

2 cinnamon sticks

Serves 2

I had the boiling water in a teapot and mixed 2 teacups with the remaining liquids (honey, bourbon, lemon juice) and then added the water, garnished with a cinnamon stick.   If you want a stronger honey or lemon flavor add more!  I suppose you could do the same with the bourbon too!

birchbox & bb cream

What’s better than a Friday night? A Friday night when your Birchbox arrives, weekend + makeup = win.

Bellinis & Birchbox are the perfect combo, FYI.

I’ve had a pretty good Birchbox run the last few months (full sized products I’ll actually use, samples I enjoy) so I was kind of expecting to be let down by this one. That didn’t happen.

While I love all the goodies Birchbox throws my way each month, my absolute favorite beauty find this year was BB Cream. I use Garnier BB Cream, it’s magical. Moisturizes, evens tone, renews, brightens and it even has SPF.

I realized just how much I loved this product last week. I started using it at the beginning of the summer (and instantly got compliments on my skin) and ran out of that first bottle just last week. Not only will it make you look better, it’s an amazing bargain. I was afraid that the cream wouldn’t last a month and one tube got me through five months !

What’s been your best beauty find in 2012?
