eats

You know when you have a mystery illness and you can’t eat anything except smoothies and soup, isn’t that the worst?   Yea, that’s what I’ve been rolling through for the last few weeks…good times.  While I haven’t been able to eat much I’m still trying to, it’s amazing that when you can’t eat things how much you want to.   Hey at least I’ve been inspired to try some new recipes (none of them vegan.)

First up was chicken chili.  Saturday all I wanted was to smell chili cooking in the house.   At the very least I could turn it into soup later.   I found this amazing chicken chili recipe via Annie’s Eats.   The only modification I made was I cooked up a few slices of maple bacon and threw ’em in.  Not bad…I added some watered down tomato soup to it later to turn it into soup.  Delish.

Tonight I decided to try out a pin I came across for Chicken Parm Meatballs.  While I didn’t get to try ’em they seemed to go over well.  One modification I made to this recipe was to add about a tablespoon of fresh chopped basil.   I served it up with lemon sauteed spinach.

Here’s hoping I can get off my soup and smoothie mix soon.  I will say I’ve created some incredibly satisfying smoothies though.

Banana Mango Spinach Smoothie

1/2 frozen frozen banana

1 handful of baby spinach

1/2 cup of frozen mangoes

1/2 cup of almond milk (although my crappy blender sometimes forces me to add a little more)

Blend and enjoy!  I’ve also tried just about ever variation of Pumpkin Spice Smoothies, still searching for the perfect one but I’m sure I’ll find it soon.  Happy eating!

sparkly mic

I’ve sparkled headphones, eggs, frames, bags so the next logical thing was a microphone, right?

Yes, I know I’m a dj, not a diva, but I’ve always thought that crystalized mics singers use on stage are awesome, and I’m not about to drop $700 on something that simply amuses me, so I made my own!

Here’s what you’ll need.   A microphone (I used a wired mic, not wireless) &  self adhesive sparkles.

Stick all over, and voila!  Sparkly mic:

This isn’t a mic I could use every day in the studio, but once in awhile if I’m doing my show somewhere.

Too much?

So if you’ve got a need for a sparkly mic (you’re in a band or you’ve got a little one who likes to pretend they’re Carrie Underwood) this is a really easy DIY.  Happy sparkling!

Just a little bag to cart my headphones and makeup in. Lately I’ve been turning the studio into my makeup place. Oops.

Happy creating!

surplus

I overslept yesterday.   Well I thought I overslept so in a moment of panic I rushed to my “oh shit I overslept,” section of my closet.   Every girl has one.   I threw together this fab ensemble (jeans, oversized sunglasses, big scarf, t-shirt):

It’s not amazing, but it’s the pieces that make you feel 40% human when you have to go from fast asleep to runrunrun in 30 seconds.    Anyway, joke was on me. my meeting wasn’t till next week.   My poor planning and comfy clothing meant there was only one logical solution to salvage the morning: apple picking.

Upstate New York is a treasure trove of orchards but I believe it’s a tough fall for apple picking because we had a very early spring and we just time warped into chilly fall days from 3 months of record breaking heat.    Normally I’d wait till the end of September or early October to pick but didn’t want to miss out.

We ran over to Indian Ladder Farms, it’s absolutely breathtaking there

(just let me filter this pic through instagram and we’ve got an I LOVE NY ad on our hands.)

There were a few types available (Macoun and JonaGolds) and because we arrived early enough we had the picking section almost all to ourselves.   Not a bad haul for $9:

Afterwards we headed over to the farm to check out the animals, love this pig, and pick up some apple cider donuts.

Now that I’ve got 30+ apples on my hand, I’ve got to take full advantage of them.  I’ll make the Carrot Apple Ginger Soup this week for sure.    Lots of pies in my future too.   I made this ridiculously easy Apple Crumb Pie last night.   It’s vegan too.

Now I just need 10 more apple recipes to get through my crisper of apples.   Got a good one?  Doesn’t need to be vegan, I’ll make anything!
