christmas crunch

Holiday cheer has hit the Capital Region:

It’s festive everywhere I turn.

Decorations are everywhere..except my house.   I still had my Thanksgiving stuff out till this past weekend.   Judge away, I’ve been busy.    Right now a wreath and Christmas Crunch will have to tide me over until my decorations go up next week.   Oh, you need to go make Christmas Crunch asap, aka White Trash.

Christmas Crunch

2c Chex cereal

2c Cheerios

2c pretzels (I used the waffle kind)

2c M&M’s

2 bags of white chocolate chips

Mix all ingredients except white chocolate chips together in a large bowl.

Melt white chocolate chips (in microwave slowly or in a double boiler.)

Pour melted chocolate over dry mixture, mix, spread over wax paper lined cookie sheets

Refrigerate for 2 hours.   Serve or store as needed

This recipe gave me 11 ziploc baggies worth of Christmas Crunch, if you’re looking for  a saltier taste, I’m pretty sure the recipe would still work sans M&M’s.

Things I get in the mail at my job:

Thankfully someone at work was going to a Zombie Convention this weekend (apparently they exist) so they got use out of the bloody hand…

raspberries and sangria

I’m still rolling in apples from our Indian Ladder expedition a few weeks ago, but I’ve got big plans for them this weekend.  I’ll explain in a moment.  Let’s talk raspberries for a second, because I still have a pretty good stash.   2 weekends ago we wandered to Yonder Farms for some raspberry picking, didn’t realize it till later but even had a Jen H. sighting!

Another great farm with beautiful fall views

Raspberry picking is so satisfying because you really are looking for the perfect little berry, you’re on a hunt.   It’s so easy for kids and it’s a requirement to eat while you pick…for me at least

If you’re not in the mood to pick you can always grab and go, tons to choose from

Never too early for pumpkins!!

It was a lovely day (made better by a stop off for cider donuts) and definitely a place I’ll visit again before fall wraps up.   I used some of the raspberries in a cake but dry packed a good amount for a rainy day.  Not sure how I’ll use them just yet but glad to have saved them.

Now back to those apples, I know exactly how I’ll be using them, Honeycrisp Apple Sangria.

I’ve been lusting after this Pinterest recipe since  August, I pinned this sucker 9 weeks ago

Hope you’re getting out and enjoying all the benefits of fall in the 518!!

starlite, starbright

I heard a rumor that the now defunct Starlite Music Theatre was going to be demolished.   The former concert hall has been essentially abandoned since 1998 and is almost invisible from it’s location off Rt. 9 in Latham.   Starlite has warm memories for me, I remember seeing my first concert there, Smokey Robinson.   Starlite was also the location of my parent’s first date.   I always smile when I drive past, and when I heard it was going to be knocked down I decided to visit one last time.   There’s no greater photoset of the Starlite than Sebastien Barre’s, this is not a serious photo doc (hello I’m using an iPhone) but more so a little account of what I saw:

Outside of the ampitheater

And the most amazing part(s) inside the ampitheater

I can’t believe 14+ years later the rigging’s still there

One of many empty buildings

A collapsed open area

I remember hearing that the last event at the Starlite was the Shaker High School 1998 graduation.  Imagine my surprise when I found this (I sanitized my hands for days)
