i’ve been distracted

So the lovely Krystal inspired me to update my little blog.  I love my corner of the web but I’ve just been distracted with work, family stuff, feeling chubby and scruffy.   So here’s what’s up.

I can explain the chubby part.  Snacks.  I really try hard to stay away from sweets but when I fail I fail hard.  I tried a bite of a Cadbury Cream Egg BAR that someone sent to the station.  Yes, a whole bar o’Cadbury Egg, that’s how they roll in the UK.   I’m pretty sure this bite sized piece had about 2,000 calories, and totally not vegan.   It was amazing.

When the circus came through we checked it out from the nosebleed section at the TU.  Seriously if you ever want the best seat in the house, go upper level, it was awesome.

I celebrated my birthday, so lucky!

I discovered a crazy, yet functional moss purse.   The ultimate spring accessory. 20120518-232803.jpg

Of course I sparkled more stuff. Here’s some color blocked frames

Made some delicious vegan meals.   Arugula, squash and mushrooms.   Awesome!

Made a quick trip to the city.   Managed to find the beauty in cabs.

Bought a rock bracelet, made me feel like Shera, Princess of Power.

Discovered a delicious vegan snack.  Housed this

Fit into an 8 year old t-shirt.  No really, that’s amazing that it still fits.  My metabolism was on warp speed 8 years ago.

Enjoyed Mother’s Day with the cutest cake ever (I only had a taste.)

Discovered some radio audio gems in my desk.  FLY92 from the early 90’s.  Listen here.

Discovered my new favorite beer (and I hate beer) Shipyard Applehead (apple beer!!!_

Frightened a Starbucks drive-thru peep with this crazy ass knot I got stuck in my hair while trying to rearrange my ponytail.   I know, I know, I shouldn’t be a lazy drive-thru user.

Fell more in love with my orange mani.   Tangerine Tango may be my favorite color of the year yet!!

Became more obsessed with this song.   Watch the video.  Love love love it.

Rocked my 7th grade basketball jersey during dropoff.   I’m too sexy for real grown up clothes before 9:30am.

Aand re-embarked on the summer spray tan.  The foot positions always remind me of a dance chart, now you’ll think of it to the next time you’re nekkid in a Mystic booth.

happy 3!

This month I celebrate three years of blogging incredibly random posts on ashallann.com.  I know my blog isn’t very focused, I don’t make $$$ off it, I just post what  I want and that makes me happy.  I’ve met some really cool readers, bloggers and discovered some awesome sites because of this thing.   I don’t know what made me stick with this one, but I’m happy I did.   Sometimes just writing a random post about a wine bra can really keep you level, serious.    I haven’t done a giveaway in awhile, I think I’ll throw one out there in a few weeks to celebrate, I genuinely enjoy giving stuff away.

I have a doctor’s appointment this morning to discuss —- something — hmmm what was it?  I can’t remember the exact reason the doctor wanted to see me, I just hope I don’t have to put on one of those gowns, and stirrups had better not be involved. I hate being told I need to be seen “right away” if I call with an issue and then given an appointment 6 weeks out.   Speedy service.

Odds are good panic attacks will come up today with my doctor, oh glorious anxiety.   I’m finding more and more a lot of friends have dealt with severe anxiety, and have overcome it to some extent.   One friend found her  escape through meditation (already signed up for a meditation retreat in the new year, check.)  Another friend found help with hypnosis (I‘m going to try to be a guinea pig for a friend training to be a hypnotherapist, check.)  Several friends found help through diet change (working on it, check-ish.) One found a relief from anxiety through running marathons (ahhhh, we’ll see.)

The diet change aspect is probably the easiest to control in the immediate.  I have a lot of friends who rave about vegan-ism.   Short of enjoying some vegan items at New World Bistro it always sounded way too difficult.  My friend Betsy went vegan (is that how you say it, do you go vegan like you go to a bar)  about five years ago because she’s a superhero.  She’s been telling me for years how much it’s changed her life for the better.  I listened intently as she would discuss her love of disgusting things like tofu and vegetables I never knew existed.   As more and more friends keep calling it their answer I’ve turned back to Betsey looking for guidance (and I’m sure she’s gloating as she reads this, suck it.)  I’m not going to become a vegan, but I’d like to investigate.  I don’t eat meat.  I can’t eat dairy.  I’ve abandoned most processed foods (once the Halloween candy is gone.)  My biggest question for Betsey was “what the f*ck can I eat that isn’t scary?”   She told me she finds a ton of great  easy recipes on Pinterest.   She was right, I went searching/pinning last night and found the cutest website ever created.  The Vegan Stoner.    How delicious does this look:

Right?  And check out how stupid easy these recipes are:

I could totally do this.  I bet I could even trick a few of my friends at work into eating this stuff too:

I might even be able to trick manfriend into easting some of this stuff and he practically brushes his teeth with meat.    I’m just desperately looking for any non drug relief from anxiety, so trying a few “healthy” recipes void of processed isht can’t hurt, right?

This past weekend was the fastest weekend ever.   Friday was my birthday, despite starting the day in a crappy mood I rebounded and had a great day with family and friends.   After work my family had an intimate party complete with a pink cake, presents and actual TIME TOGETHER:

After the party my parents were kind enough to volunteer to babysit so manfriend and I found ourselves kidless for the evening.   I’ve been running my mouth about wanting a boot from the Biergarten forever and finally decided to give it a shot:

Saturday I spent a quarter of the day recovering from das boot and then ran around getting ready for a celebration for kiddo the next day.   After picking up cakes, penny loafers and flowers we were ready for a busy Sunday.  I didn’t even really celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday it was all about kiddo and family.   After his celebration we held a luncheon for our family at Dinosaur BBQ in one of their private rooms (the smaller of the 2) and I was really impressed.   We had great food from the catering menu  (ribs, chicken, salmon and various sides) the service was great (we had a private server) and everyone was happy.   It’s not easy to impress my family, and they were impressed…none of them had been to Dinosaur BBQ before.

—sidenote, allegedly this was the LOWEST weekend at Dino BBQ, hard to believe because it always seemed pack.  I think their business model revolves around a nonstop 2 hour wait—

Finally after the luncheon and a bike ride and some tennis I decided to indulge in a mother’s day moment:

Ahhh, champagne and fuzzy slippers.   This is the life.

How was your weekend?

dragging ass

ugggggh.    I hate insomnia so mf’ing much!!!!!    Lately my problem isn’t falling asleep, it’s staying asleep.  I woke up at 4am after falling asleep at midnight and I am beyond exhausted.   Suck it insomnia.   I’ve already had 2 cups of coffee and I’m still sleepy.   I’m totally wearing my cranky pants today, which sucks because today’s my birthday !  I love birthdays, I’m so grateful for another day and another year with my family.   But I’m still sleepy, and a little cranky.  Meh.

When I was taking the trash out this morning I noticed that the lilacs haven’t bloomed yet.   Lilacs are almost always fully bloomed on my birthday but our roller coaster weather must have messed up their clock.  Anyway I bring up the lilacs because they got me thinking about birthday memories.   I’m grateful for EVERY birthday but there are a few that stick out:

5th birthday.   I had chicken pox.   If I remember correctly I think my parents still had my birthday party for my friends but I obviously couldn’t go.

8th birthday.   I remember being so excited about bringing in pink frosted cupcakes to school with a red m&m on top and having my first sleepover party.

16th birthday.   I got my permit and a stereo

25th birthday.  I went to Disneyworld for the first time for a broadcast.  It was amazing and I got to bring kiddo.

28th birthday.   I was told my position was being eliminated (shout out Ryan Seacrest!)

My birthdays are always lovely, those were some of the memories that flew back when I was looking at the yet to bloom lilacs.   What are some of your birthday memories?
