birchbox & bb cream

What’s better than a Friday night? A Friday night when your Birchbox arrives, weekend + makeup = win.

Bellinis & Birchbox are the perfect combo, FYI.

I’ve had a pretty good Birchbox run the last few months (full sized products I’ll actually use, samples I enjoy) so I was kind of expecting to be let down by this one. That didn’t happen.

Etolle Nail Polish

Soy Joy bar (meh)

Lavender Hair Powder

Jouer Perfume

Fibre Lash Extend Mascara

Gift box

While I love all the goodies Birchbox throws my way each month, my absolute favorite beauty find this year was BB Cream. I use Garnier BB Cream, it’s magical. Moisturizes, evens tone, renews, brightens and it even has SPF.

I realized just how much I loved this product last week. I started using it at the beginning of the summer (and instantly got compliments on my skin) and ran out of that first bottle just last week. Not only will it make you look better, it’s an amazing bargain. I was afraid that the cream wouldn’t last a month and one tube got me through five months !

What’s been your best beauty find in 2012?

if i had a million dollars – $13k moisturizer

Moisturizer for $13,000.   There it is.   Cle de Peau Beaute is releasing a limited edition moisturizer, available this September for a price higher than gold.   For 13k I would hope there’s gold in it, and an aesthetician who comes out and gives you a facial whenever you’d like.    Apparently the high cost of the moisturizer is due to the packaging.   Why use plastic when you can put it in crystal and platinum:

If you’d still like to experience the world’s most expensive moisturizer, Barney’s will apparently have the goods available for about $780 this fall, but no fancy packaging.   No crystal for you.

More amazing than the price tag is the commercial for the moisturizing cream.  Apparently if you buy it you’ll be able to make sexy eyes like Amanda Seyfried, oh and your skin might look good too.  Check out the video below:

I really hate Mondays.”

That was a statement from my kid yesterday morning.  While I laughed it off and explained to him every day was a gift and we have to make the most of it, in my head I was thinking, “yea, sometimes they aren’t so fun.

I try to naturally get over feeling meh on mondays, but often it can’t be avoided.  I won’t lie, I totally smiled when I came home hauling 4 heavy bags of groceries and spotted this month’s Birchbox.   I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.  For $10 a month it’s like a nice little gift to yourself.    Here’s what rolled in this time:

Dr. Jart Waterfuse BB Cream (can I be honest, I dunno what BB is but it’s everywhere)

Joya Parfum (it’s a little musky not sure I like it)

KellyVan Gogh caviar shampoo & conditioner

Melvita Rose Floral Water (to be used as a skin refresher)

theBalm Stainiac in Beauty Queen (for lips and face)

Cynthia Rowley Dress Up Band Aids.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say the Band Aids weren’t the most exciting part of this box.   Totally serious, I am constantly injuring myself so cute Band Aids are exactly what I use.   If I ever purchase fun Band Aids they’re usually camoflauge or Spiderman themed for the kid, so this is a fun girly thing for me.     On my BirchBox info card it says you can buy a pack of 20 for $15, but I found a better deal on Cynthia Rowley’s website, a pack of 20 for $5.

spray tan fail/fix

It’s taken a long time for me to embrace my pale skin.   Growing up I was surrounded by friends and family who were always bronzed, while I had to be slathered in sunscreen head to toe for fear of burning.  I physically cannot tan, but I discovered self applied sunless tanning options when I was 16.   I won’t get into my many summers of looking like Anne Hathaway in Bridesmaids, I rocked the streaks with grace though.

I finally discovered mystic tanning (not nearly as messy as the self applied stuff but way more expensive) and eventually grew out of my need to always been tan.   I’m cool with being pale, but every now and again I like to pretend to be tan so I’ll get my mystic on.     I know how to prepare to make sure I have the best tan.   Exfoliate.   Apply the barrier cream (lotion you put on your hands and feet to keep them from being super dark.)    Keep my arms out while doing the nekkid tan dance

I knew I wanted to look tan for this weekend so I prepped as always and got my mystic on on Saturday.   I did everything I always do but when I got done tanning my hands felt sticky.   They never feel sticky after tanning.   Even after wiping the barrier cream off it was still bothering me so I decided to wash my hands super quick.   Big oops.   I probably should’ve waited 30 minutes or so because I basically washed the tan off my hands and arms, here’s what I woke up to yesterday:

That’s my really attractive splotchy arm.  This pic doesn’t even do it justice, it was such a blotchy contrast of tan and pale.   Thankfully because I’ve f*cked up many self applied tans before, I had a fix in mind.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs.   This stuff will save you in a pinch if you have a spray tan disaster.   I went with the medium glow. It’s usually $12-$14 at your nearest drug store.  It’s easy to use, just spray, rub, dry, move on.

This pic was actually taken after working, sweating, showering and sleeping and it’s still covering up the f-up.   If I reapply today I’ll make sure to show how well it works.   Just a little tip to keep in mind if you ever screw up your spray tan like I did!
