twist and eat

Sometimes when I tell people that I work in radio they instantly assume my days are filled with nonstop fun.   Sometimes they’re right.   I mean, do you play Twister in your office?

Image

I forced people to play Twister, but I swear it was work…honestly.

When I’m not busy playing Twister and running a radio station, I’ve been experimenting with a lot of new (to me) recipes.   Here are some fun successes from the last week:

Steakhouse Pot Pie with Cabernet & Mushrooms

Image

This recipe was featured on the Today Show earlier this year and is incredibly easy to execute.  It’s not a good quickie meal, but if you’ve got a little time to let things simmer I guarantee this will get you mucho compliments.

Stromboli

Image

I’d never even eaten stromboli before, but as soon as i saw this “how to make stromboli” pin I figured it was worth a try, I mean it’s essentially a giant pizza roll.   I didn’t use the same ingredients as the recipe, I went with mozzerella, fresh basil, ground sausage and sauce…oh and the dough of course.   It was awesome, but i didn’t have parchment paper so I basically destroyed my pan.  This baby clean as a whistle before I stromboli’d it:

Happy twisting and eating!!

sparkly mic

I’ve sparkled headphones, eggs, frames, bags so the next logical thing was a microphone, right?

Yes, I know I’m a dj, not a diva, but I’ve always thought that crystalized mics singers use on stage are awesome, and I’m not about to drop $700 on something that simply amuses me, so I made my own!

Here’s what you’ll need.   A microphone (I used a wired mic, not wireless) &  self adhesive sparkles.

Stick all over, and voila!  Sparkly mic:

This isn’t a mic I could use every day in the studio, but once in awhile if I’m doing my show somewhere.

Too much?

So if you’ve got a need for a sparkly mic (you’re in a band or you’ve got a little one who likes to pretend they’re Carrie Underwood) this is a really easy DIY.  Happy sparkling!

sparkle shirt

Can I be honest ?   The reason I haven’t posted all week is because of this:

I am officially Downton Abbey obsessed.   I heard so many friends rave about it over the last few years but had no idea what they were referring to.  I noticed Season 1 of Downton Abbey on Netflix and decided to watch a little bit of the first episode on Sunday night.   Next thing you know I’ve blown through Season 1, purchased Season 2 on iTunes and have been skimming through it to see what happens.   I’m hooked.

Onto sparkles!

Summertime for radio peeps is busy.  We’re out and about all the time and always try to wear station gear (gotta get that brand out.)   Anyway after 14 years of wearing pretty uniform t-shirts, I decided to add some sparkle into my summer gear.   While I love sparkling things, when it comes to clothing I don’t trust myself so I found a great website called Custom Couture.    Easiest thing ever and not as expensive as I thought it’d be.

Just go to the design room to create your own shirt.   Select the type of shirt, color, and get going:

You can add tons of sparkle, a little sparkle.  Images, text, really anything you can dream up.   Once completed shipping takes about a week.  I made 2 t-shirts.

This one (manfriend didn’t fold it after it was washed and it needs to be ironed, eek)

And this one:

The t-shirts are good quality, although I wish I gone a little smaller on the black shirt.   All in all it was a fun way to get my sparkle on.  I believe I spent about $25 on each shirt, a little more on the black one because there’s a lot of sparkle.   Yes, it’s more than I would normally spend on a shirt, but I’ll be wearing these shirts weekly, if not more, throughout the summer.

i’ve been distracted

So the lovely Krystal inspired me to update my little blog.  I love my corner of the web but I’ve just been distracted with work, family stuff, feeling chubby and scruffy.   So here’s what’s up.

I can explain the chubby part.  Snacks.  I really try hard to stay away from sweets but when I fail I fail hard.  I tried a bite of a Cadbury Cream Egg BAR that someone sent to the station.  Yes, a whole bar o’Cadbury Egg, that’s how they roll in the UK.   I’m pretty sure this bite sized piece had about 2,000 calories, and totally not vegan.   It was amazing.

When the circus came through we checked it out from the nosebleed section at the TU.  Seriously if you ever want the best seat in the house, go upper level, it was awesome.

Aand re-embarked on the summer spray tan.  The foot positions always remind me of a dance chart, now you’ll think of it to the next time you’re nekkid in a Mystic booth.
